I taught myself web development back when the web was just getting started, did some writing, and contracted for some large Silicon Valley firms. Programming was a good gig, but the corporate lifestyle just didn’t fit, and after doing some hospice volunteering, I realized I’d rather be working with people than machines. So I returned to school to study medicine.

Except a funny thing happened — I just haven’t been able to put computers aside. And although I found software to be an unfulfilling career (a personal thing, not a judgment on others), it’s remained a rather persistent hobby. Of course, finding time for hobbies — or any sort of life — outside of med school is a constant challenge. So hopefully this blog can serve as an outlet for my technical side, along with the trials and rewards of med school.

Incidentally, about the title of this blog: Cocoa is both a reference to the hot drink (it’s winter and cold much of the year up here) as well as the name of the programming API programmers use when writing applications for the Mac.
